The 25th Annual Suncoast Silver Circle Honorees were inducted on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at a formal reception and gourmet dinner at the Renaissance Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port Hotel. This was the 25th consecutive year that the Silver Circle has been given in South Florida.
This year the Silver Circle was presented to Maria Celeste Arrarás, Lori Davis, Ari Odzer, Emilio Rangel, John Turchin and Roberto Vizcon, all of whom have devoted a quarter of a century or more to the television industry, a significant part of which was done in South Florida.
Maria Celeste Arrarás is the co-anchor of Noticiero Telemundo on the Telemundo network. She also is an Emmy® award-winning journalist and investigative reporter, host of Telemundo’s “Al Rojo Vivo con Maria Celeste”. People en Español recognized her as the best news anchor of 2012 in its end of year issue. She began her broadcasting career as a reporter in her native Puerto Rico.
Lori Davis is Executive Director/Producer/Avid Editor for LCD Productions, which she owns. She began her broadcast career in 1977 as a studio operator at WPTV in West Palm Beach. Over the years she has held positions of increasing responsibility and creativity, including a year in Paris working with Univision on the World Cup soccer games. Now, she spends much of her time helping non-profits and charitable organizations with their video production needs.
Ari Odzer is an Emmy® award-winning general assignment reporter who has worked with distinction for NBC6 WTVJ since 1990. Born in Izmir, Turkey, he moved to Florida as a youngster, attended Deerfield Beach high school, graduated from the University of Florida and began his career in Gainesville. In 1987, he moved to WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach where he honed his skills working as an anchor and reporter.
Emilio Rangel retired from WPLG in the summer of 2008 after thirty five years as a multi award-winning photojournalist. He and six other photographers comprised the “Magnificent Seven” team assembled by Steve Tello in the seventies. Emilio was born in Havana, Cuba in 1942. He arrived in the New York in 1962 and moved to Miami in 1974 when he joined channel 10.
John Turchin is the crime specialist reporter at WPLG, returning to Local 10 after nearly 25 years. Prior to that, John spent more than a decade as a National Correspondent for the FOX Television show, “America’s Most Wanted.” He graduated from North Miami Beach High School and the University of South Florida. John started in local radio and then moved on to WCIX and WSVN where he co-anchored “Today in Florida.”
Roberto Vizcon is a 34 year veteran of local television news and management. He began his career as a news production assistant at WUSA in Washington, DC. His career has included managing both WGEN-TV, Columbian network Caracol’s affiliate in Miami and WTMO-TV, the Telemundo network affiliate in Orlando. He also served as News Director of WSCV-TV in Miami. He is a 2002 Emmy® award recipient for News Series Producing.
